Snow Tires or Studded Snow Tires - That is the Question …

I opened a can or worms on this question.  I put it to my nextdoor.com neighbors and had over 30 responses!

The season for having these on your vehicle runs November 1st through April and Bend gets ICY - not necessarily snowy, although it does snow here at ground level - so if you’re not a 4-wheel drive car with all terrain tires, you will need something.

Studded snow tires are not popular for obvious reasons, they tear up the roads, and you can hear a car with them a mile off.  However for ice and snow they are great.

The majority popular opinion is for snow tires, and we have at least 3 options for where to purchase - COSTCO, Les Schwab and Discount Tire - these are the most

Fall To-Dos

Outside Home Maintenance

  • Wash the windows
  • Clean downspouts and guttersFall Home Maintenance
  • Inspect roof and chimney for cracks and damage
  • Drain sediment from water heater
  • Turn off exterior faucets
  • Remove hoses from spigots and drain water
  • Remove leaves around your outside HVAC unit
  • Store outdoor furniture and cushions
  • Cut back perennial plants and mulch around base
  • Stow the lawnmower
  • Test snowblower and service if necessary

Inside Home Maintenance

  • Dust ceiling fans and ceiling light fixtures
  • Schedule a furnace or HVAC tune-up
  • Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
  • Check windows and doors for weather-tightness
  • Clean out dryer vent
  • Rotate/flip mattresses
  • Wash bedskirts/covers/pads
